Ya Naing, Bo
- (1919-1989)Nom de guerre of Ko Tun Shein, one of the Thirty Comrades and son-in-law of Dr. Ba Maw. He played a leading role in the Rangoon University Students Union and the All Burma Students Union from 1938 to 1941, and after the Burma Independence Army was established in December 1941, won distinction as a commander fighting the British at Shwedaung, near Prome (Pyay). In 1944-1945, he was commandant of the military academy established by the Japanese at Mingaladon. After World War II, he was active in opposition politics. In 1969 he joined the Parliamentary Democracy Party of U Nu and became one of the commanders of the former prime minister's antigovernment insurgency based in the Thai-Burma border area. He returned to Burma following an amnesty proclaimed by Ne Win in 1980, but after the power seizure by the State Law and Order Restoration Council in September 1988, he helped U Nu organize his own party, the League for Democracy and Peace.
